    OSEntreprendre Challenge

    The idea for this project was spawned after the Prework Training class had watched a documentary on the Dead Sea, then conducted research into salt recovery. The product marketed under the Saline des Bois banner was an ecological salt dish made by the students.

    These salt dishes were aimed at those who like cooking with fleur de sel and appreciate kitchenware made from natural wood. They were sold by school personnel, the students and their families. Sales received a boost once the young entrepreneurs arranged for their product to be made available from the NPO operating in the school. The Saline des Bois salt dish had been purchased by many satisfied clients in the Saguenay and Quebec City regions.

    Results observed

    Participating in this entrepreneurial project taught the students to respect each other and be tolerant of their differences. Teamwork, solidarity and a sense of accomplishment were all benefits they earned that extend beyond the scope of the project. The students were aware they had to meet their individual responsibilities in order to reach a common goal. They realized that their actions determined the success of this collective project and learned to manage themselves.

    Involvement and support

    • Sophie Dion, lab work technician, made recommendations about the drill bits to order.
    • Bruno Simard, the school carpenter, showed the committee how to adjust the drill press rotation speed and identify wood species.
    • Audrey Lemieux, TST teacher, let the students use the tools in her class.
    • Josée Villeneuve, corporation manager, assisted the sales committee with the final packaging and let the enterprise use her sales counter.
    • Bernard Larouche, the father of one of the teachers, helped gather, sort and saw the logs.
    • The promotional video was made by a secondary V student.
