    Le marais du Pré-Joli

    Provincial prizewinner

    OSEntreprendre Challenge

Pré-Joli Marsh, located near the school playground, had long been neglected and had accumulated a considerable amount of trash. A group of creative grade 3 and 4 students enthusiastically took part in a campaign to raise community awareness about the marsh and encourage people to discover its natural treasures!

One of the students' achievements was a calendar featuring texts written by the students on marsh-related themes. These included the description and role of a marsh, as well as the plants, animals and micro-organisms living there. The calendar was distributed at no cost in the community of Laterrière. Their other accomplishments in association with this project were the inauguration of the newly cleaned marsh, the production of a marsh birdwatching guide, the construction of bird and bat houses, the planting of trees and the cleaning of the marsh!

    Nature of the project

    Results observed

The project has been beneficial on many fronts! All the students overcame every challenge they faced and carried out their tasks masterfully. Today, Pré-Joli Marsh is a vision of scenic beauty, and the students have become quite attached to it. The room was packed during the marsh inauguration ceremony, with many journalists present. The project received significant media coverage at both the local and provincial levels. The calendar also proved very popular!

The project succeeded in reducing vandalism in the sector to the point it had almost entirely ceased. People became more mindful of the marsh, and later clean-up operations were less laborious.
